Respiratory

The respiratory system is a set of organs responsible for taking in oxygen and expelling carbon dioxide. The primary organs of the respiratory system are the lungs, which act as an exchange surface for gases. The entire respiratory system is lined with mucus, which traps inhaled particles and bacteria and prevents them from entering the lungs. The cilia, tiny hairs that line the respiratory tract, sweep the mucus and particles towards the throat where they can be coughed or swallowed.

The respiratory system also helps to regulate blood pH levels by removing excess acid through exhalation. This is important because acidic blood can be toxic to other tissues in the body. Additionally, the respiratory system helps to warm and humidify inhaled air before it reaches the lungs. This is important because cold, dry air can damage the delicate tissues of the lungs.

The respiratory system plays a vital role in keeping us healthy.  However, if the respiratory system is not working properly, it can have a negative impact on our health.  There are many different diseases that can affect the respiratory system. Some of these diseases include asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema.
